Week 13 Waiver Wire and Flier's

Waiver Wire

QB’s

Caleb Hanie – Traveling out west and throwing for 250 and 2td’s is impressive. Sure there were 3 int’s but considering Forte wasn’t really involved, means a positive vibe has to be applied here; especially considering he is locked in as the starter for the next few weeks. Hanie is a good back up if injury strikes your team.

Kyle Orton – I’d rather have Kyle Orton over Hanie. Orton is inheriting 3 very good receivers. With tasty payback games against Denver and Chicago and free agency at the end of the year combined with Cassel being due a huge off season bonus, Kyle has all the motivation he needs to try and succeed and succeed well. It’s just too bad Jamaal Charles isn’t there anymore.

RB’s

Donald Brown – (on last week’s flier list) Sure one could attribute Donald Brown’s success last week to playing the Carolina Panthers and their woeful run defense; but going into kick off Addai was listed as the starter and yet it was Donald Brown who got running. With Dan Orlovsky being named week 13 starter perhaps he can jump start the offense and if he does, it would be nice to have Donald Brown.

Kregg Lumpkin – See Donald Brown’s intro… Guess who gets Carolina this week? The Tampa Bay Bucs. If you’re looking for a flex play in a deep PPR league; Lumpkin should prove quite serviceable.

WR’s

Riley Cooper / Jason Avant – In that order. Who would have thought that VY would throw for 400 yards? What about Djax getting benched? Well if you saw Djax hesitate to catch those balls in traffic, another benching could be coming. Maclin still isn’t practicing so that is why Cooper is better as he will start opposite Djax, but Avant is clearly serviceable in the slot. If Maclin is out again Cooper is WR3 and Avant WR3 in PPR, he had 8 catches last week.

Johnny Knox – All year we wanted to see more Knox and less Williams. Perhaps Hanie from the bench saw the same thing we all saw. Knox exploded last week against S.D. and that should continue as long as Hanie is on the move and extending plays. Knox has the speed to lose defenders and take it to the house. A plus in return yardage leagues too!

TE

Scott Chandler – With no Fred Jackson, the offense now runs through Fitzpatrick. Although Brad Smith (Flier) is now the starter for Donald Jones leaving David Nelson in the slot, Chandler has proven to be a red zone threat. If you’ve grown frustrated with your tight end, give Chandler a look. Especially in TD only leagues.

Flier’s

Brad Smith – Named starter this week opposite Stevie Johnson. A plus guy in return yardage leagues.

Dan Orlovsky – Named starter this week for the Colts. Maybe he catches fire? He still gets to throw to Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garcon.

Week 12 HotnNot's

Hot

- Start'em if ya Got'em

QB - Matt Ryan - Minn doesn't have their top 2 DB's, Matty at home on a 3 game hot streak. Done deal Pal.

RB - Darren Sproles - Statistically the GMEN are great against pass catching RB's, but at home on the turf I believe Sproles with be force fed screen passes to keep the rush at bay.

WR - Santonio Holmes - Roll with Santonio after Sanchize's motivational speech. Buffalo is reeling from the loss of Fred Jackson who was their offense. This should allow the Jets offense plenty of opportunities to get the ground game going after Buff also lost their NT Kyle Wilson setting up Holmes on several big plays, which is exactly what Buffalo's defense allows.

TE - Jake Ballard - Jake is becoming to Eli, what Kevin Boss used to be; his chain moving security blanket. In a potential shootout against a blitz happy defense, Jake should see plenty of targets.

Not

- Nate Dogg: "Hold up;..... Wait"

QB - Carson Palmer -
No DMC, no Ford,no DHB and Moore??? means another 30 carries for Michael Bush. But up against Chicago's cover 2 even if Moore is active, he'll probably be limited just like last week in a run heavy approach. So who does Carson throw too?? Chaz in Boss? Sounds like a 70's good cop bad cop show... Good cop, Bad QB.

RB - Toby Gerhardt - Of this weeks waiver wire darlings this one has the least upside. Replacing AP doesn't mean you replace AP's production. Especially this week against a Falcon's defense that ranks 2nd against the run. Perhaps as Ponder gets more comfortable and if AP's absence is an extended one, Toby may have matchup play potential. This isn't that week.

WR - Vincent Jackson - Champ Bailey owns #1 WR's and VJax is only averaging around 50-65 yards against Champ and with his plays usually coming from Rivers heev n chuck throws, that isn't alot of action. Figure Denver to be draining the clock in the running game, and with no need for S.D. to really pace the scoring look for Rivers and the offense to go elsewhere.

TE - Brandon Pettigrew - GB's athletic 'backers and ball hawk Safety Woodson will limit Pettigrew in an offense that has plenty of options. Figure the redzone throws to go to CJ, the dump offs to Kevin Smith and quick slants to Titus and Burleson; sucking any value out of Pettigrew.

Week 12 Waiver Wire and Flier's

Waiver Wire

QB’s

Matt Leinart (Second Listing) – Andre Johnson is back to practicing fully and there isn’t a QB out there for a back up spot on your roster with more upside. Remember those games with Arian Foster having 100 yards receiving? Well Andre is back now and that along with QB roll outs to Arian sets up a nice upside. Houston isn’t exactly in the toughest division so those games are down the line during playoff time.

Matt Moore – Miami’s qb has been on quite a roll lately. He has a great #1 WR in Marshall, a good pass catching back in Reggie Bush and a very serviceable TE in Fasano. While you’re probably not considering starting Moore right now, his upcoming schedule does offer spot starts for a QB needy team in a deeper league or injury insurance for a playoff run; Oakland wk 13, Buffalo wk 15 and New England wk 16.

RB’s

Obvious names here are Kevin Smith and Toby Gerhardt.

Ryan Grant – With Starks likely out on this short week with a knee sprain; consider Grant a likely candidate for 15 touches. While he isn’t counted on for 3rd down work and even Starks missed out on goal line carries to Kuhn and last week Raji. In a tough spot or in deeper leagues, Grant could be serviceable in a flex or RB3 position.

Montario Hardesty – Hardesty was the man when Hillis initially got hurt. Now coming off a calf injury he is surely to be the more trusted back especially on 3rd down. Check practice reports but with Hardesty expected back much sooner than Hillis, Hardesty provides the upside to be a RB3 in PPR or flex play in standard deep leagues. Ogbonnaya has come on of late, but he was a free agent signing and likely owned.

WR’s

Nate Burleson – Happy Turkey Day from Nate Burleson. In a potential shootout against a secondary that gives up tons of yards; and in an offense that is in the shotgun 75% of the time – Burleson may keep you from falling asleep on the couch. Burleson, this week; has high WR3 value that may flirt with low WR2 value with a lot of attention being drawn to CJ.

Santana Moss – Perhaps he was discarded long ago with his fractured hand and left to collect dust at the bottom of your waiver wire. I just scooped him up in a 14 team league. Santana offers WR3 value with Rex at QB and when the matchup is right he can flirt with WR2 value, especially in PPR formats. He can and will be quite serviceable to a playoff run.

TE

Kevin Boss – When Oakland lost Zach Miller to free agency, they went after the next best thing on the market; Kevin Boss. With Carson Palmer and an elite running game Boss has been coming on of late as a chain mover. He’s done more the last two weeks than he has all season, so perhaps things are looking up.

Flier’s

CJ Spiller – What if Fred Jax misses this week? Donald Jones is out 3-6 weeks so David Nelson moves out wide and Spiller into slot at least.

Donald Brown – Led Indy in carries before bye and gets a defense last in the league against the run this week(Car). Brown also has value as a 3rd down back, especially if Addai is out again.

Titus Young – Shoot out against Packers this week and this slot receiver could benefit greatly.
